DC Developing Harley Quinn Standalone Movie with Margot Robbie
With huge excitement surrounding the upcoming Suicide Squad movie, and in turn many expecting Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn to be the standout character, it's no surprise that Warner Bros. and DC are planning to expand the DC Extended Universe with a Harley Quinn standalone movie.
In news coming from The Hollywood Reporter it's stated that the movie will both star and be produced by Robbie. With the huge buzz surrounding the character and the what many believe to be a great first on screen live action rendition of the character it's no surprise that this is in consideration at Warner Bros.
Sources claim that the movie is being driven by Robbie who after doing huge research, working through the comics and history of Harley Quinn discovered that there's such a rich and diverse cast of female heroes and villains within DC Comics. She is said to be the 'Impetus for the project' having worked with a writer to flesh out her own idea and bring it to WB for consideration.
Whilst Harley Quinn, will be a core part of the movie, it's claimed that she will not be the complete focus and that in fact the movie will act more as a showcase of DC's excellent female characters. Both Batgirl and the Birds of Prey have been mentioned and of course there's plenty of room for many infamous female comic characters that are often tied to Harley such as Poison Ivy and Catwoman.
An all female DC movie centered around Harley Quinn could be an absolute joy to behold especially with a well balanced dynamic of humour and action that the character is well known for. We're on board and keen to discover more. What are your thoughts to the potential of a Harley Quinn spin-off movie - does it have the potential to carve a unique niche in the currently overcrowded superhero arena?
